Workshop Series Details

What: Ithaca League of Junior Rollers, ROLLER DERBY WORKSHOP

Who: For boys (with an emphasis on referee training) and girls ages 8-17. ALL SKATING LEVELS WELCOME, experienced skaters and new skaters welcome

When: Sundays from 2-5pm on Nov. 6th, Dec. 11th, Jan. 22nd, Feb. 12th

Where: BJM gymnasium – Beverly J. Martin Elementary School on 302 W. Buffalo St. Note: Please use the Albany St. gym entrance.

Cost: $20/skater/workshop

Black Mamba Skate Shop will have new gear for sale & there is a used gear sale as well.

Optional Gear 101 Session: from 12:30-1:30 pm. This is open to anyone. Topics covered include: how to care for/adjust your gear, discuss different kinds of gear, etc

Note: Skaters must have: mouthguard, helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads, and skates. The ILJR has a limited supply of loaner gear in some sizes. If you need to borrow gear, please email juniorderby@ithacarollerderby.com with your requirements in advance.

The members of ILJR are strong and motivated young women who train hard, respect their teammates, and love the sport of roller derby. Junior skaters, ages 8-12 and 13-17, learn powerful skating skills, build fitness, and enjoy a fun, confidence-building team experience in a supervised, competitive league structure.

Junior roller derby is a light contact sport, based on Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) rules. All players are required to wear protective gear: a mouth guard, elbow and knee pads, wrist guards, and a helmet. Dues are charged to defray costs. ILWR conducts fundraising to ensure that all interested junior skaters, regardless of their financial resources or athletic experience, can roll with ILJR.
