On April 20th, 2013, Ithaca League of Women Roller’s members, CamArrow and Smash Register, participated in the first ever Tough Turtle Obstacle Race in support of the Ithaca Children’s Garden. Over 600 racers conquered the 5k race filled with obstacles including gorge and creek crossings, cargo nets, and mud crawls.
The race was a benefit for the Ithaca Children’s Garden, a local organization, whose mission is to inspire, promote, and sustain youth and community stewardship of the natural environment through garden-based learning and discovery. The ICG is a great local organization and resource for kiddos, families, and schools. It is one of the things that helps make Ithaca a great place to live.
CamArrow and Smash committed to fundraise $275 each in order to run the race. We are proud to say that this small but mighty team of ILWR members, with the help of fans, friends, and family, raised just over $1500 for the folks at the Ithaca Childrens Garden!! They were the 3 rd highest fundraising team for this event!
The ILWR is committed to supporting local non-profit organizations and have featured the Ithaca Children’s Garden at a past home bout, where 10% of bout proceeds were donated to ICG.
In true ILWR style, many league members cheered CamArrow and Smash through the obstacles and over the finish line!
